Technology Term 2, Week 1!!

Hey guys! Yesterday was Thursday the 23rd of April. Rimu class (my class) went to our first Manual session at Lincoln Primary School. My Manual class is now in Textiles (sewing). Our Teacher is Mrs. Paterson. I think sewing is one of the best classes there because you can make whatever you want after a set amount of weeks. This week Mrs. Paterson explained safety and rules and our booklets, pretty much all the basics. We then had to make a keyring thing. This is Josh's:I can't wait for next week's Tech! Oh yeah, I also saw a old friend from last year there.
So, all and all, a good week.
My keyring! VFX stands for 'Visual Effects'

Technology Week Five!!

So hey guys! Week five, eh? Last week we had a reliever so, sorry, no post then. But, this week we made our own compasses!
This compass is done on the equatorial axis, so it's on a 45 degrees angle. We learnt about shadows and how light forms them, the points on a compass, different kinds of compasses and more! Did you know, the point on a compass that creates the shadow is called a 'knomon' ? Anyway, so we made this compass and, surprisingly, it actually works! All we had to do after is put down the sin disk corrections.

               Reflection Time!!

This new learning will effect me by giving me the knowledge of how to tell the time without a watch.

I will use this information to tell the time in a different way.

This will make a difference in my life so when I'm in the wilderness without a watch I can tell the time.

            Technology Week Three!!

In our third session at Manual, we dissected mussels!! It was slightly gross, and Gus thought it was Super Gross!!!!!!!!!! The mussel itself doesn't feel pain because it doesn't have a brain. We had to identify all the different body parts - from the intestines to the anus! It was fun, and there was talk about dissecting sheep's eyes.

Reflection Time!!

This new learning won't effect me.

I will use this information with how I treat sea creatures

This will make a difference in my life because I might not eat mussels again!!!

Technology Week Two!!

So hey guys, at our second session at Manual, we did an experiment with paper towels. Which Paper Towel Can Absorb The Most Water?
My hypothesis was correct, because out of the 5 paper towels that we experimented on, Budget won with 75mm!!

Reflection Time!!!

This new learning will effect me with what paper towel brand I buy.

I will use this information with what paper towel brand I buy.

This won't make a difference in my life.

Technology!!

On Thursday the 12th of February, Rimu class went to their first Technology class for 2015, at Lincoln Primary School. We took the bus to Lincoln, and when we arrived, we were sorted into groups along with Springston School. The classes are: Woodwork, Textiles, Foods and Science. Josh and I are in Science together for this term. Next term we will be in Textiles. For Science we did a experiment on Chewing Gum: Which Brand of Chewing Gum has the Longest Lasting Taste? Interesting fact- gum is made out of a mix of plastic and rubber, mixed in with artificial flavours and colours. We tried 7 different types of gum. The longest lasting was Eclipse Ice Spearmint, with 5 minutes and 55 seconds. Mmmmmm. My favourite. Science was fun and I'm glad I don't have to wait for another term to be in it.

  7. Yes, the room did reek a bit when I came in! It was super interesting though and how cool to wear gloves and pick it all out. At high school I remember dissecting sheep's eyes - it was fun! Are you going to finish this and add a photo? What else would you like to dissect?

    1. The mussel doesn't have a brain. It doesn't feel pain, which is why we dissected them. :-)
